Beyonce Being Sued by Video Game Makers

From HipHopDX.com:

In an exclusive story, New York Magazine’s Vulture.com is reporting
that video game production company Gate Five has filed a lawsuit
against Beyonce for breach of contract. The developers are seeking an
award in excess of $100 million dollars. Gate Five say they entered
into a deal to create a “motion-sensing dance video game” with the pop
singer entitled Staypower: Beyonce.

Vulture quotes Gate Five’s summons as accusing Beyonce of “a bad faith
breach of contract so callous that, on what appeared to be a whim, she
destroyed Gate Five's business and drove 70 people into unemployment,
the week before Christmas.” The company refers to Beyonce as Ms.
Carter throughout the document, referring to the singer’s marriage to
Hip Hop titan Jay-Z, whose birth name is Sean Carter.

The suit also describes Beyonce as “too erratic to do business with.”
Requests for comment by Vulture to Beyonce’s management have not been
met. To read the full story, including further allegations from the
summons, head over to Vulture.com.

$150 Nintendo Wii on May 15th?

Rumor has it that the Nintendo Wii will get a major price cut soon.

More from Engadget.com:

Nintendo's miniature white monolith has sold like gangbusters for long
enough that we're wary it'll ever get cheap, but a trusted source
tells us a price cut is indeed headed our way -- and that the Nintendo
Wii will cost just $150 starting May 15th. The timing would make some
sense, given how Nintendo's profits have tanked for a while due to
flagging hardware sales, and just last month Nintendo of America
president Reggie Fils-Aime hinted that the Wii's price might be a
potential variable to change that in an interview with Gamasutra.
Still, we're not fully convinced that Nintendo would announce a price
cut then, rather than, say, at the Electronics Entertainment Expo in
June, and it's not like the company to let this sort of announcement
leak out. Still, if you find a shiny new copy of Mario Kart Wii in a
$150 console bundle this time next month, don't say we didn't warn
you.

Players of Facebook Game 'Car Town' Can Help Japan Disaster Relief by Purchasing Limited-Edition Red Cross Ambulance

More than 7.5 million players of the popular Facebook game “Car Town”
(www.CarTown.com) can simultaneously expand their virtual vehicle
collections and make a donation to the Japan earthquake and Pacific
tsunami relief by completing an in-game purchase of a new
limited-edition red and white Red Cross ambulance.

Car Town creator Cie Games (www.CieGames.com), a leading developer of
high-quality online social games, will donate 100 percent of the
proceeds from sales of the virtual emergency vehicle to the American
Red Cross and its Japan disaster relief efforts.

“Our hearts go out to the people of Japan,” said Dennis Suggs, chief
creative officer of Cie Games.  “The Car Town Red Cross program is an
easy way for Car Town players all over the world to contribute to the
relief effort.”

Facebook users who play Car Town can collect and customize virtual
cars, build their dream garage and help friends do the same, and race
each other to earn points and bragging rights.  Players perform jobs
to earn in-game currency and experience points.

Donations to the American Red Crosswill be made in two ways.  The
first donation is generated with the purchase of the Red Cross
ambulance.  Once players own the new vehicle, they can send their Red
Cross ambulance on an in-game mission called “Help Japan” to make
further donations.  One hundred percent of the money raised will be
donated to the Japan earthquake and Pacific tsunami relief.

Guitar Hero and DJ Hero Bite the Dust

From the News Wire:

Activision Blizzard, which makes the Call of Duty and World of
Warcraft series, says it's ditching the franchise because "the
popularity of music-themed video games has faded".

The company is also cutting 500 people from its global workforce of 7,000.

Activision Blizzard has revealed that other games it's cutting will
include True Crime.

The company says music games are expensive to manufacture, between the
licensing fees for the songs and the cost of making the hardware such
as plastic guitars and microphones.

Activision Publishing Chief Executive Eric Hirshberg said: "We simply
cannot make these games profitable based on current economics."

Fourteen different versions of Guitar Hero have been released since
its launch in 2005 including Guitar Hero World Tour and Guitar Hero:
Warriors of Rock with celebrity specials from Aerosmith, Metallica and
Van Halen.

The company says a new digital platform called Beachhead will now
focus on the money-making Call of Duty franchise.

Since its launch in November, Call of Duty: Black Ops has smashed
retail records and pulled in more $1 billion (£621.9m) in sales
worldwide.

Last year, Viacom sold the unit behind the Rock Band video games
because it was also losing money.
